Fue uno de los mayores artistas plásticos modernos de Guatemala. Fue pintor y muralista; colaboró con Diego Rivera en el mural del Anfiteatro Bolívar, fue uno de los fundadores del Sindicato de Obreros, Técnicos, Pintores y Escultores. Fue nombrado director de la Galería de Teatro Nacional en México, dirigió la Escuela de Danza de México, desempeñó el cargo de Agregado Cultural de la embajada de Guatemala en Italia, fue profesor de arte en el Nortg State Teacher College en Denton, Texas. Recibió la medalla de oro de la Dirección General de Cultura y Bellas Artes y el Águila Azteca de la Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores de México en 1980.
